Characterization and Treatment of High-Level Waste and Nuclear Fuel
Contact person: maria hitos galan montano
Objetives
It focuses on the characterization, minimization, and management of irradiated fuel (IF) and high-level radioactive waste (HLW). It studies the evolution of their stability considering all possible storage conditions (short, medium, and long-term/repository) and types of fuels (conventional, high burnup, high-density, and ATF - Advanced Technology Fuel). It also researches advanced nuclear fuel cycles by defining, developing, and demonstrating processes for the separation of radionuclides of interest and developing new processes for nuclear fuel fabrication.
