Objetives
It deals with the selection and thermo-hydro-mechanical and geochemical characterization of materials used as engineering seals (bentonite layers, concrete, drainage, and impermeabilization) to provide insulation for toxic or radioactive contaminants, thus preventing their transport into the environment. Its application goes beyond high-level nuclear waste, as these materials are used as liners or covers in conventional waste storage (landfills) or in low- and medium-level radioactive waste storage.
