Environmental Radioactivity

Contact person: jose antonio suarez navarro

Objetives

It studies the determination and behavior of natural and artificial radionuclides in the environment, focusing on determining transfer factors and establishing the main dispersion pathways in real scenarios. Studies are conducted on natural and artificial radioactive contamination in operational situations (NORM industries, nuclear facilities, mine tailings, etc.) and emergency situations, the modification of the distribution of natural radioactivity due to human activities, the use of natural radionuclides for environmental studies (erosion and sedimentation), and the study of natural radioactivity in concrete, mortars, and geopolymers through the reuse of industrial waste in the manufacturing of construction materials. Additionally, it investigates and develops new radiochemical and measurement methodologies for the aforementioned applications.
