Multi-mode solar concentrator
Abstract
CIEMAT and the University of Almeria have developed a parabolic-trough solar collector that incorporates rotating blades and allows to choose between two operating modes: as a parabolic-trough concentrator or as a flat-plate collector. This device can be used for the production of heat both at low temperatures (below 100 °C) and at intermediate temperatures (250 °C).
What problems does it solve?
Thanks to this technology, it is posible the generation of heatvof solar origin in processes with thermal demands at medium and low temperature in environments characterized by space restrictions when locating the solar collectors.
Benefits
• Feed, with a single element, processes that present combined thermal demands at low and medium temperature depending on their temporary or seasonal programming.
• Allow an additional solar use in PTC facilities during periods of reduced direct radiation.
• Have additional capacity for temperature and radiation regulation.
• The use of this technology permits to optimize the operation of solar facilities, adapting it to seasonal and daily thermal demands.
Potential customers
• Domestic sector.
• Different industry sectors in which heat is required both at low temperatures (< 100 °C) and at intermediate temperatures (250 °C): food and drinks, textile, wood, paper, chemical, plastics and rubber, glass, plaster, metallurgy, machinery and equipment, automobile, etc.
• Agriculture (pumping water for irrigation).
• Desalination plants.
