Adaptable linear Fresnel solar collector

Abstract

CIEMAT has developed a Fresnel-type linear solar collector comprising: a line focus receiver arranged in a north-south orientation, a first array of reflectors arranged to the east of the receiver (east array), and a second array of reflectors arranged to the west of the reflector (west array), in which each of the reflectors has means of individual rotation of each reflector. This system is capable of increasing the optical efficiency of the solar collector and, therefore, the thermal energy it can supply to a process.

What problems does it solve?

Generation of solar thermal energy in processes with medium and low temperature thermal demands.

The design allows its installation on roofs of industrial buildings with a southward slope and sufficient space for the location of the solar collector design.

Benefits

The patented Fresnel solar collector design presents, for a system installed in southern Spain, and considering the proposed innovations, with a southward tilt of the primary concentrator of 10º, an optical efficiency 10 points higher on average than that of an equivalent design that does not consider concentrator tilt, concentrator rotation or receiver displacement.

Potential customers

• Different industry sectors in which thermal energy is required both at low temperatures (<100 °C) and at intermediate temperatures (up to 250 °C): food and drinks, textile, wood, paper, chemical, plastics and rubber, glass, plaster, metallurgy, machinery and equipment, automobile, etc.

• Renewable fuel generation processes (for example green H2) that require thermal energy <300 °C.
