Device for measuring forces and torques in flexible connection joints for parabolic trough collectors (SOLDYN)
Abstract
CIEMAT has developed a measuring device that allows knowing the forces and torques on a flexible connection joint during the routine operation of the system, giving information about its evolution and wear. Of interest to manufacturers of flexible connection joints and owners and operators of solar thermal power plants.
What problems does it solve?
Flexible connection joints (flexible hoses or rotary joints) are elements that connect the inlet and outlet receiver pipes between parabolic trough solar collectors installed in series or between solar receivers and fixed process pipes.
The damage or breakage of flexible connection joints installed in a solar field causes significant operational and economic damage in this type of systems, not only because of the cost of these connecting elements, but also because of the leakage of heat transfer fluid, which can be contaminant and dangerous, and because, in addition, the affected area of the solar field must be isolated, reducing the thermal power generation of the plant.
Benefits
This device allows periodic or continuous monitoring of the flexible joints installed in the solar field and provides useful information for preventive maintenance.
Potential customers
Flexible connection joints manufacturers (flex hoses, rotary ball or swivel joints) and solar power plants owners and operators.
