Chamber for continuous and simultaneous subsampling of aerosols from confined steady or transient flows
Abstract
Technology developed by CIEMAT consisting of a chamber designed for the continuous and simultaneous subsampling of aerosols from confined steady or variable flows. Its innovative design allows the simultaneous extraction of multiple subsamples from both ducted (e.g., pipes, stacks) and non-ducted sources (e.g., ambient air), without altering the conditions of the main flow. This ensures high precision in particle characterization. The invention stands out for its versatility, reliability, and ability to integrate into real-time monitoring systems, providing a key tool for advanced aerosol analysis
What problems does it solve?
In many sectors such as energy, chemical, or pharmaceutical industries, it is essential to sample aerosols with high precision in order to control emissions, comply with regulations, ensure process quality, or protect occupational health.
However, current sampling systems present several limitations, such as:
• They disturb the system flow when extracting the sample, leading to unrepresentative data due to particle losses-especially of ultrafine particles.
• They do not allow continuous or simultaneous sampling from multiple points.
• They operate only under steady flow conditions.
• They are not easily adaptable or integrable into real-time control systems
Benefits
The developed chamber enables continuous and simultaneous subsampling of aerosols in both steady and variable flows, without altering system conditions. This results in more reliable data, greater versatility and safety during testing, no interference with ongoing processes, and operational savings by reducing the need for shutdowns or adjustments. Additionally, its modular design facilitates maintenance and adaptation to different environments.
Potential customers
This invention has multiple industrial and research applications wherever high-precision aerosol characterization is required, or where aerosol control, analysis, or sampling is critical to the process, product quality, or environmental and occupational safety.
For these reasons, potential users of this technology can be found in sectors such as food, energy, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, transportation, automotive, aerospace, environmental monitoring, among others.
