Abstract
In recent years, an accelerated process of urbanization and rural exodus has taken place, which is associated with strong increases in energy consumption, increased temperatures, increases in emissions of polluting gases into the atmosphere, an increase in situations of energy poverty, social exclusion or work problems. This rapid urbanization is especially significant in developing countries. Positive Energy Districts (PED) are one of the solutions proposed to reduce the negative impact of cities on greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the habitability, quality of life and resilience of cities. However, the implementation of this type of solutions entails a series of challenges. In order to assess the existing situation and the possibilities in some countries of the LAC region, four case studies distributed in three countries of the region were analysed. Said analysis shows that the success in the implementation of these districts in the LAC region requires collaborative work between all the agents involved that makes it possible to combine all the existing objectives.
