Abstract

"Adopta Ciencia" is a scientific communication project that seeks to bring science to society in an agile and simple way.

In this year's edition, scientists from the Medical Applications and Ionizing Radiation Unit and the CIEMAT Accelerator Unit will talk about the use of radioisotopes in medicine, techniques such as proton therapy, or the use of cyclotrons for the manufacture of radiopharmaceuticals. In addition, the contribution to large particle physics facilities and their return to society will be explained.

Researchers from the Materials group will talk to us about the characterization of materials as a tool to improve different technologies for generating and obtaining energy that require special operating conditions, such as nuclear fission and fusion devices, solar thermal energy, fuel cells and hydrogen (one of the most important energy vectors that we will have in the future).

From the Electric Power Systems Unit, they will show us what technologies CIEMAT is working on related to renewable generation from marine energy, energy storage used in electrical networks, and with sustainable means of transport for the future, such as electric vehicles and ultra-fast trains.
